Watch: Support for Liverpool rail workers on strike

This week the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has led the way in the struggle for the working class and has electrified the nation in doing so.

I was delighted to show my solidarity with the striking members on the picket line at Lime Street Station today. The support from the city was overwhelming with so many messages of support.

This is a fight we must win collectively. As trade unionists we must grab this opportunity with both hands.

Speaking today at the RMT picket line at Liverpool Lime St I said:

“This is the moment the country is saying enough is enough and looking for answers. The trade union movement can lead the way… by offering long-term solutions to the cost-of-living crisis which is decimating our communities.

“We have, in our great city, one in four living in hunger. Yesterday, at our food pantry in West Derby, I spoke to a district nurse - a mum, who was on the verge of losing her home because of twelve years of wage stagnation.

“It is criminal. The system is utterly broken for millions.

 “Enough is enough.”
