Labour motion calls for a strengthening of standards in public life

On Tuesday I voted for Labour’s Opposition Day Motion on strengthening standards in public life, after the Prime Minister downgraded and rigged the rules in the wake of Sue Gray’s report into conduct at Downing Street.

In a week when Boris Johnson’s lies to Parliament about rule-breaking at the heart of Government were finally exposed, he should have been resigning but instead he rewrote the code.

This Prime Minister is debasing the principles of public life before our very eyes. Judging by the number of Tory MPs who voted ‘no-confidence’ in Johnson this week, it seems that many within his own party increasingly feel the same way.
