Government proposals on Public Advocate fall short

This week, Secretary of State for Justice Dominic Raab has announced an "independent public advocate" for disaster victims and families.

To say I am disappointed with the announcement is an understatement.

These new proposals do not go nearly far enough and have already been criticised by Hillsborough families, who believe it falls short of the public advocate we have long called for as part of our Hillsborough Law Now Campaign.

On Wednesday I responded to the Ministerial Statement on the Public Advocate. It’s clear we urgently need a full implementation of a Hillsborough Law to fully rebalance the scales of justice for all.
