Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee

This week at EFRA Committee I raised the issue of air quality in Liverpool and demanded stricter Government targets.

The Committee was questioning the candidate to be the new Chair of the Environment Agency.

I asked him to back the World Health Organisation's call for a stricter target on air quality to be met by 2030, instead of the Government's current aim of 2040.

I told him that as a Liverpool MP this is a hugely important issue for my community and constituents, and that a target of 2030 would mean "388,000 fewer days of childhood asthma symptoms and 3,000 fewer cases of coronary heart disease.”
