Community rally organised by West Derby MP Ian Byrne calls for De La Salle to remain open

The event, which took place at Queen of Martyrs Club in Croxteth on Thursday evening, was organised by Liverpool West Derby MP Ian Byrne, who has recently become a foundation governor at De La Salle.

Mr Byrne told the Liverpool Echo: "The turnout was magnificent and I was delighted to hear so many eloquent speeches on what the school means to so many people. We heard inspiring stories from former pupils, former teachers, some of the facilities staff at the school, and a pupil of the future.

"We wanted to come together to celebrate 97 years of De La Salle because to have something in our community that has done so much good for so many people is of huge importance.

"When I made the public request for pupils to share their stories of De La Salle, the amount of responses was overwhelming and the breadth of responses was extraordinary. People who got in touch were finance leaders from Hong Kong, heart surgeons, NHS staff, prominent journalists, lawyers, barristers, teachers and many people who have made a success of themselves.”
