Preston City Council calls for the Right to Food to be enshrined in law

Preston Council has this week become the latest in a growing list to back a call for the Right to Food to be enshrined in law and for the principle to be included in the national food strategy, the first independent review of the UK’s food system for 75 years.

At a meeting this week of the full council, the authority also pledged to develop a ‘No Child Should Go Hungry’ campaign in the city by working with other organisations to tackle the root causes of food poverty.

Preston joins councils from Liverpool, Manchester, Wirral, Salford, St Helens, Rotherham, Brighton and Hove, Haringey, Newcastle and Portsmouth, as well as Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Liverpool Combined Authority in formally backing the Right To Food campaign.
