Ian Byrne MP guest speaker at Scottish Labour Conference anti-poverty events

Liverpool West Derby MP Ian Byrne was a guest speaker at several events at this weekend’s Scottish Labour Conference in Glasgow.

Mr Byrne was invited to speak at Saturday’s Campaign for Socialism event on the cost-of-living crisis, alongside former MSP Neil Findlay and Mercedes Villalba, MSP for North East Scotland, as well as at the Trussell Trust Scotland fringe event on ending the need for charitable food aid, chaired by Scottish TUC Deputy General Secretary Dave Moxham. During the conference weekend, Mr Byrne also spoke at a Peoples Assembly fringe event on the cost-of-living crisis.

Across these events Mr Byrne spoke of his experiences as a grassroots anti-poverty campaigner as part of Fans Supporting Foodbanks prior to becoming an MP and of his current work on the Right To Food campaign.

Ian Byrne said: “It was great to finally meet in person so many Labour MSPs, councillors and members over the conference weekend and look at how we work together on achieving a Right To Food. We all agree that hunger is a political choice and will be working collectively to bring about systemic change for the millions who are suffering.”
